Chevrolet Camaro Drag Car 1969
Description
1969 Chevrolet Camaro Drag Car – 427ci 640 HP
Experience classic American drag racing performance with this 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Drag Car, built around an original zero-rust steel street Camaro and extensively prepared for serious quarter-mile competition. Combining iconic first-generation Camaro styling with a naturally aspirated 427 cubic-inch engine producing approximately 640 horsepower, this car offers a purpose-built combination of power, lightweight components, race suspension, upgraded braking, and proven drag-racing equipment.
The car retains its original steel Camaro body and is specifically noted as zero rust, providing an excellent foundation for a dedicated drag-racing machine. Weight reduction is achieved with a fiberglass front clip, fiberglass doors, and fiberglass deck lid. The car also includes two hoods, providing additional flexibility for setup and maintenance.
Power comes from a 427ci naturally aspirated V8 producing approximately 640 horsepower. The engine and entire vehicle have undergone a complete rebuild, followed by only seven test passes, making this a recently completed racing package. Power is transferred through a two-speed Powerglide transmission equipped with an RPM solenoid shift system and RPM launch selector, allowing the driver to manage shifting and launch characteristics for drag-racing applications.
Cooling and airflow have also been upgraded. The car features a new Griffin race radiator, ceramic-coated competition headers, and a custom K&N high-flow air cleaner. Fuel, brake, and transmission lines have all been replaced with new components.
The chassis and suspension package is designed for drag-strip use. At the rear, the Camaro uses a new 35-spline axle and spool from Strange Engineering, rebuilt adjustable Koni coil-over rear shocks, and large Goodyear 33 x 14.5 x 15 rear tires. Up front are new adjustable QA1 shocks, Weldwood Dynalite drag brakes with new red calipers, and Goodyear 26 x 4.5 x 15 front tires.
Inside, the car is equipped with a new Sparco Evo adjustable racing seat, RaceQuip seat belts, and dual Delco 78-series 800-cranking-amp batteries. The rear braking system uses Weldwood Dynalite MC4 brakes with parking brakes.
The Camaro was previously inspected for IHRA 7.50-second quarter-mile requirements. The provided specifications also note that the applicable requirement was later changed to cars running under 9 seconds.
This 1969 Camaro is a compelling choice for a collector, drag racer, or enthusiast looking for a classic American race car with a strong naturally aspirated 427ci combination and extensive race-oriented equipment.
